A HOUSE could be built over a busy coal yard in Great Witley if Malvern Hills planners give the proposed development the go-ahead.

The scheme, which involves the erection of a house, together with a detached garage, on an existing coal yard on Worcester Road in Great Witley, has been submitted to the district council.

Fear

The steeply-sloping site is on the north side of Worcester Road and adjoins a chalet bungalow.

Several residents on Worcester Road and The Glebe in Great Witley have said the building will result in a loss of light to their properties, which they also fear will be devalued because of the development.

Great Witley parish council has raised questions about the style and size of the proposed dwelling, which it says is out of character with adjacent properties.

It suggests the application is amended to lower the levels of the site, change the design to a "cottage" style or bungalow and move the home closer to the highway to reduce the visual impact.

The matter will be discussed at a meeting of the district council's northern area planning committee tomorrow at 3pm.
