NEW jobs will be created when a no-frills supermarket, which aims at keeping costs to a minimum, opens in Worcester.
A mixture of full-time and part-time jobs for 10 to 15 people will be created when the German food retailer Lidl opens its store in Newtown Road, Ronkswood, next month.
The contractors have now left the newly built store, and the sales team of Lidl are currently preparing for its opening on Thursday, October 16, at 9am.
A spokeswoman for Lidl said she could not say how many part-time jobs and full-time jobs would be created until the store opened.
City councillor Mike Layland, who is an independent councillor for the area welcomed the new store saying it would boost the area.
The store is built on the former Co-op site.
"Lidl is the only store there at the moment among a number of private houses," said Coun Layland.
"It stood empty for a long time and we had vandalism and travellers there.
"The poor neighbours there had put up with a living hell looking out on that site.
"The site needed to be tidied up and I'm looking forward to the rest of it being developed."
A road crossing near the store is to be upgraded to a pelican crossing.
