A DRAMATIC injury time penalty stunned Bromsgrove RFC First XV and left them with a 16-15 at Kenilworth.

The 86th minute winner last Saturday cruelly robbed Dean Ball's side of a brave victory after clawing their way back from 10-0 down at half time with two tries, one converted.

But a less than pleased coach said: "Our first half performance gave an average team the hope they needed and when we decided to play a bit we ended up chasing the game."

Bromsgrove, giving a debut to second row foward Craig Jesson, dominated the lineout and scrummage and also boasted man of the match in Tom Churchill.

Once the second half began, Bromsgrove got on top of the hosts. Richard Arnold scored first for the visitors after a ruck ball was recycled well by a clinical pack led by skipper Dave Clark.

Five points ahead and reeling from a rejuvinated Bromsgrove, the hosts suffered again thanks to a penalty by Dave Wellavize, but then found fresh legs to come back with a penalty to lead 13-8.

Sustained Bromsgrove pressure followed with a flowing back move culminating in a burst of pace and a hefty hand-off by eager centre and player coach Dave Wilkinson. His 25-yard dash levelled the score at 13-13 and a simple between-the-posts conversion by Wellavize nudged Bromsgrove ahead.

A tense injury time featured both sides desperate for the win but when Kenilworth's Kendall kicked his last gasp killer, Bromsgrove were left ruing lost opportunities squandered carelessly throughout.
