EVENING News readers say GM crops should be banned in Worcestershire.
Ninety-three per cent of readers who voted in our phone poll over the weekend said GM crops should be banned in the county, while only seven per cent gave the thumbs-up to them being grown.
The phone poll follows the publication of a report based on the GM Nation? debates, published last week.
Debates that took place in various locations across Britain earlier this year showed the vast majority of participants were opposed to GM foods.
Malvern District Council is also hosting a public meeting on genetic modification next week.
Public notices have been put up in and around the town advertising the meeting and about 60 invites have been sent to local agricultural and food production organisations.
"The main objective is to inform people about GM issues, persuading people to join discussions and also to get their opinions on the matter," said Chris Watkins, democratic services manager at the district council.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 8 at 7.30pm at The Forum, Malvern Theatres, in Malvern. For more information, contact Chris Watkins on 01684 862272.
