REDDITCH Hockey Club is appealing for potential new players as it celebrates its centenary year.
The Bromsgrove Road club is holding an open hockey tournament on Sunday to mark its 100th anniversary.
It is welcoming all present and past players, as well as anyone else interested in playing in or watching the event, which starts at noon.
It is open to players of any level and age and the club will also be running junior games.
Vice-chairman Paul Wright said: "Over the past 100 years, the club has enjoyed varying success and has had varying numbers of teams.
"In the 50s the men ran two teams, this increased to three in the 60s and four in the early 70s and by the middle of the 80s, the club regularly ran six men's sides every Saturday.
"Many players that have been brought through the club's youth section have gone on to play and coach at clubs of all levels all around the country and some are now returning to the club to try to expand it to the levels seen in the 80s."
The most famous player to have played at Redditch was probably Roger Self.
With the help of another Redditch player, Brian Disbury, he went on to coach the Great Britain hockey team, which included the famous gold medal winning year at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Mr Wright said the club was one of the best equipped in the region because it had its own pitch on site along with dedicated changing and social facilities, as well as access to rugby, cricket and squash.
He added: "The future of the club looks positive not just for the hockey club but also the rugby and cricket, as the possibility of new pitches and changing facilities being built in the next 18 months are improving all the time."
The club currently runs three men's teams and a Badgers side, mainly made up of junior members.
