WORCESTERSHIRE needed a further 337 runs today to end their Frizzell County Championship Division Two season with a victory over Derbyshire at New Road.

When bad light stopped play prematurely last night the County were 36 for the loss of Anurag Singh in pursuit of a challenging target of 373.

Worcestershire, whose hopes of clinching promotion disappeared on Thursday, allowed Derbyshire to pump up their overnight score of 98-2 to 391.

Andrew Gait, a half century maker in his first innings, lifted his overnight 46 to 67 before he was trapped lbw by David Leatherdale for 67 which included eight fours off 161 balls.

The main damage to the County, however, was inflicted by Steven Selwood and Jason Kerr, who put on 131 in 34 overs for the fifth wicket.

Selwood made 77, containing 13 fours off 146 deliveries, before he was bowled by Leatherdale. Kerr also became a Leatherdale victim after hitting 11 fours in a 93-ball innings of 68.

Nathan Dumelow added to weary Worcestershire's frustrations by blasting 56 off 59 balls. He was last out after cracking one six and nine fours.

Medium-pacer Leatherdale was the County's most productive bowler with 4-50, while spinner Gareth Batty had his average damaged by taking 1-118.
