WORCESTER City are hoping a home draw in the FA Umbro Trophy will help keep them on the road to a money-spinning trip to Wembley.

Saturday's 1-0 win at Stalybridge Celtic put them into the last 16 for the first time in 18 years, and the club are now within four games of a first-ever visit to the twin towers.

The run has already captured the imagination of City fans with almost 400 travelling supporters watching their victory on Saturday.

The further City go the more money they can make, which could go a long way towards clearing an estimated £500,000 debt.

But manager John Barton is refusing to get carried away by the euphoria. He said of the draw: "I haven't even considered it, to be honest, but we know where we are in relation to the draw and there are a lot of good teams still in there.

"We are that far away from getting there but we have only played three games. The draw can play a big part and if we have good fortune, then who knows what may happen?"

Barton was warm in his praise of the support they received at Stalybridge. He said: "The City fans were tremendous. The supporters have been fantastic since I have been at the club and they pushed it on to another level on Saturday.

"It would be nice to reward that sort of support with a good home draw in the next round."

Barton is urging the players to put any thoughts on the FA Trophy to one side before the next round on February 26.

They have three very important Dr Martens League Premier Division games before then, including a home clash with title-chasing Bath City this Saturday.

They also visit Dr Martens Midlands Division Evesham United in the Worcestershire Senior Cup second round tomorrow night.
