Why do people try to justify speeding on the public highway?

I hear whinges about 'only doing 35 in a 30 mph area', haven't they seen the advert of the child flying over the bonnet?

Complaints that speed cameras are only to generate local authority income. Don't they mean "I want to break the law and get away with it"?

I've competed on many of the motor racing circuits of England. I know the kick we get from speed, the adrenalin rush from cornering and braking on the limit.

But what sort of fool does that on public roads when there are pedestrians, cyclists, animals kerbs and trees around, not to mention vehicles coming the opposite way?

There are plenty of track days where, without a racing licence, Joe Public can drive like maniacs round a track, and there'll be emergency services close to hand.

Don't even think of driving like that when I'm around trying to deal with the poor driving standards of the average motorist, let alone those who want to drive faster than legally permitted.

Once outside the metal box, we're vulnerable. I expect most people have felt threatened by fast or dangerous driving.

The arrogant message seems to be "get out of my way, I'm more important than you because I'm in a car and you're not".

No, let's have more speed cameras, traffic calming humps, anything to enforce sensible driving and keep the roads safe for everybody around Worcester.
