SHELSLEY Walsh have a star-studded line-up for its three-day Festival of Speed Hill Climbing next month.

The meeting will be held over the weekend of August 15-17 and features the top hillclimb cars of today and a feast of cars from the past.

Practice for all cars is on the Friday, followed on the Saturday by rounds 27 and 28 of the Tran-X British Hill Climb Championship and round six of the Midland Hill Climb Championship.

The big hitters in the title chase will be there including hill record holder Graeme Wight jnr whose Gould 2.5 litre V6 sped to the top of the historic hill in 24.56 seconds in the June meeting.

He will be pushed all the way by Adam Fleetwood in a similar Gould but with a 3.3 litre V8 engine. Fleetwood has won many rounds this year including hill records at other venues, while Inkberrow's Tim Mason will be there to push the youngsters. He is currently second to Wight in the title chase.

On the Sunday there is an invitational meeting with the cream of the cars from the day before and many classic cars, the main attraction likely to be former Grand Prix driver Jackie Oliver who will be driving an original Ford GT40 similar to the car he piloted to win the Le Mans 24 Hour race, the March 701 that Jackie Stewart drove to victory in the 1970 Spanish Grand Prix, and the Ford Escort that won the classic London-Mexico rally.

There are also seven Thoroughbred GP cars, including an F1 Emeryson, a special Ferrari and Maserati racing car class, a vintage class including the W12 Napier Bentley, a 1973 class looking back to the same meeting 30 years ago including the Ginetta Oldsmobile, nine ERAs including the brand new pre war record holding car, R4D with Mac Hulbert who re-set the mark earlier this month, and several World Rally cars.
