FRENCH Formula One legend Jacques Lafitte will be driving a Morgan Aero 8 GT car in a race in Belgium later this month.

One of the biggest names on the international motor racing stage in the 1980s, Lafitte recorded six wins and ten second places in 176 Grand Prix appearances.

He will now be joining GT and ASCAR star Neil Cunningham and Formula 3 ace Paula Cook in the Aero 8 for the Spa 24-Hour Race in Belgium on July 26-27.

Charles Morgan, the company's managing director, said: "We are really honoured to have Jacques Lafitte behind the wheel of a Morgan.

"It's certainly the strongest and most intriguing driver line-up we have ever seen in the Aero 8, and the car is looking in fantastic shape.

"Anything can happen in a 24- hour race, but I know that all the drivers and the whole team will give it their very best."

On Sunday, Morgan took an Aero 8 racing car to Goodwood, where he put it through its paces in front of 20,000 car enthusiasts at the Festival of Speed.

On Monday, he took another Aero 8 to the Abbey Hotel where he was addressing a breakfast meeting of the Conservative Business Forum.

At the meeting, members raised £158 for the Acorn Children's Hospice with a raffle.
