I cannot believe the amount of construction and refurbishment that is going on in Worcester at the moment, usually resulting in nearby stores and shops being forced to close down.

When this is coupled by the sheer amount of fast food litter dropped from inconsiderate people and the usual drunks that inhabit Angel Place, and particularly Crown Passage, is it any wonder people do not want to visit the Faithful City?

When I was a Special Constable, 10 years ago, I would try to do a foot patrol around the city centre as often as possible.

Where are the police constables necessary to prevent crime and disorder to be found today?

What I saw walking through Crown Passage at 3:30pm on a Friday afternoon would easily have resulted in two arrests for "drunk and disorderly" if I was still in uniform.

CrownGate has been a noticeable success in promoting visitors to Worcester, but what city authorities have to realise is that the areas that surround CrownGate have also to be maintained and policed.

If this is not done, towns and cities such as Cheltenham will take away valuable customers from Worcester itself.
