SOMERS Park Avenue Primary School in Malvern Link has emerged with flying colours from a double inspection.

Not only was the school visited by a team from Ofsted, but a member of Her Majesty's Inspectorate came as well, checking out the Ofsted team.

The news, announced this week, comes days after a successful fundraising fete held at the weekend.

"The HMI inspector said he's been visiting schools for 20 years, he's visited 2,100 schools in that time and Somers Park is on the top ten of all of those," said headmaster Stuart Sewell.

The inspector told Mr Sewell that he had seen "inspirational" teaching, and praised teachers' creativity. Pupils were enthusiastic and highly attentive learners, he said.

The Ofsted team reported that Somers Park is a "very exciting school with many outstanding features", a "very happy, caring place where pupils feel valued and enjoy learning," which provides very good value for money.

Ninety per cent of lessons were good or better, 60 per cent of them very good or better and 15 per cent inspirational.

Mr Sewell said: "Somers Park pupils are most proud that their determination to learn, and the standards they achieve, are celebrated in the report.

"Full credit and thanks for this goes to a dynamic and inspirational team of teachers who successfully lead a totally committed support staff in delivering education of the very highest quality."

Tim Swallow, chairman of the school governors, said: "Governors are thrilled with a report which is due to the exceedingly hard work by Mr Sewell and his team. We are very proud of the school."

Pupils, parents and staff enjoyed the school's summer fete at the weekend, which raised £1,700, plus £150 from a balloon race and £550 from a raffle.

A sponsored bounce the previous week raised a further £1,600.
