IT'S a worrying world in which we live, and no mistake. The temperature rises a few degrees on the thermometer and parts of our civilisation begin to crumble.

Take the multi-million pound, nearly-new lone star Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Doctors are apparently worried that temperatues of more than 30C not only make working conditions difficult, but could lead to patients catching infections.

A hospital spokesman tells us that there is air conditioning in a number of clinical areas, "comfort cooling" in others and, in yet more, "other forms of mechanical ventilation".

After all, he tells us, full air conditioning would be "extremely expensive and only put to use on a handful of days".

And all the while patients are saying it's too hot, relatives are complaining, people are bringing fans in from home - and germs are breeding.

Meanwhile, in our worrying world, residents in Ronks-wood are having to contend with their water supplies drying up.

As we report on P3 today, concerned Kim Weston said shutdowns had left homes without water on eight occassions and there was a continual problem of low pressure.

But Severn Trent, at least, is taking action to put matters right. Let's hope that those in charge of running the NHS take action sooner rather than later.
