REDDITCH United have boosted their options ahead of Saturday's crunch FA Cup tie against Leek by signing striker Andy Jones from Halesowen Town.

Jones enjoyed a prolific spell at Midland Alliance side Halesowen Harriers before stepping up a level to join the Yeltz last season.

He was in and out of Brendan Phillips' side last season and has been forced out of the first team picture at The Grove because of the form of Leroy May.

Although the striker's non-league career has been blighted by a persistent knee trouble, Reds manager Rod Brown will be aware of Jones' exploits for Harriers after joining the Park Road side after a spell as a trainee at Dario Gradi's Crewe Alexandra.

Jones' arrival will give Brown more options up front with target man Lee Booth again struggling to find the back of the net.

Peter Sutton and early-season arrival Naveed Arshad have made an impact for the new-look Reds this season but after a barren time in front of goal last season, Booth's only strike this year was in the 2-2 draw at Merthyr Tydfil.

Reds boss Brown saw his side return to Dr Martens western action with a 0-0 draw at Atherstone United at the weekend follwoed by a 2-1 surrender to Gresley on Tuesday.

Three points could haul United into the top half of the table after some promising performances have so far brought a mixed bag of results, and would boost the hosts for their big Cup tie.

A win against Leek, as well as securing a much-publicised £7,500 in winnings, would leave United just one win away from a date against a Conference side, and two matches from the elusive First Round Proper, the furthest the club has ever gone in the competition.
