POLICE will be "ground down" over their refusal to move on bikers parked illegally at a riverside street in Bewdley, a town councillor has said.

Paul Gittins said he would bring up the issue of motorcyclists on Severnside North at every meeting of Bewdley Town Council until the matter is resolved.

He said the current yellow lines nearest the river should be burnt off and placed on the other side of a line of bollards, where bikers leave their machines, to remove the excuse they are not parked illegally.

Mr Gittins, speaking at the last meeting of the town council, said the mark left by the move would be a "black mark against the police". It is the latest twist in the ongoing battle between residents and police over the issue, which homeowners say makes their weekends a misery due to the noise of the machines.

Residents met officers in April and were told the police response to the parking problems would be negligible in future. Mr Gittins said leaving the existing yellow lines as well as putting down a new set would be too confusing.

He suggested an access only sign be erected at the entrance to the road off Load Street.

The council agreed to write to the Highways Partnership - which maintains the district's roads - and West Mercia Police about the two proposals.
