A FOUNDING member of Stourport Rotary club has been rewarded for his service on the club's 40th anniversary.

Jim Perry was presented with the Rotary Club Paul Harris Award by president Eddie Barry.

Mr Perry, the club's press and publicity officer, helped raise £50,000 to build the Sea Scouts building in Lickhill Road in 1994 and headed the project to build a day centre in Stourport's New Street.

The former chairman of Stourport Town Council, who owns a post office and shop in Areley Kings, said it was a "great honour" to receive the award.

"I'm one of those people that works and doesn't want an award, but they sprung it on me," he said.

"It's a great honour because they're so rarely given away and I'm proud to receive it, but I don't gloat over things because I'm sure there are members within the Rotary Club who have done far more than me."

Mr Perry, of Lickhill Road, Stourport, was presented with his award by president Eddie Barry at a ceremony at Tenbury - the last event of his term of office before handing over to new president Geoff Lythall.
