Worcester City manager John Barton has released four players and transfer-listed another in a summer clear-out.

Striker Sam Bowen, defenders Kevin Willetts and Bradley Sandeman and winger Jon Purdie have left and winger Keith Knight has been transfer-listed.

But Barton has made his first summer signing in Gloucester City midfielder Mike Wyatt, while Nathan Jukes and teenagers Paul Wyatt and Wesley Joyce have all agreed new contracts.

The prolific Bowen was transfer-listed after his dismissal in the FA Trophy tie at Telford, and City have agreed not to exercise the one-year option on his contract. Barton said: "We want people here that want to play for Worcester City."

Knight, signed last summer from Cheltenham, has failed to live up to expectations at City.

Barton said he wanted to keep Sandeman but was unable to agree new terms with the player. "With the travelling involved we couldn't get anywhere near the terms he wanted."

Willetts, now 38, is likely to retire from the game and Barton said: "Since I have come to the club his contribution has been good and we thank him for his efforts." Of Purdie, he said: "He does things in terms of quality that not many people in this standard can do, but he is not getting any younger and has had a problem with his knee."

Barton is pleased to have landed Gloucester's Wyatt, who has also played for Bath City, on a free transfer. "He can play a number of roles, mainly wide right."

Jukes has signed a two-year deal, while Paul Wyatt and Joyce, who made their debuts at Clevedon last week, have agreed one-year contracts.

Skipper Chris Greenman, who is out of contract, may also be offered a new deal depending on how he recovers from his knee injury.
