JOHN Brain has hinted that his future hinges on how competitive Worcester Rugby Club are prepared to be next season.

The Sixways director of rugby returned to the club today to oversee a two-week conditioning training period for the squad.

Brain believes that the next two weeks will uncover some answers to the future of the club, the present squad and the coaches.

Coach Andy Keast has already admitted that he would be unlikely to stay on board if there was no chance of promotion next season, while Brain, out of contract at the end of June, wants clarification of the club's future.

"I fully expect Rotherham to be given the all-clear in respect of them meeting the promotion criteria. However, the issue of the RFU inquiry is still to be resolved.

"When we know the results of that then people can make some decisions. The club is at a turning point now and if we are to stay in National One, we need to know whether we want to be competitive or just tread water.

"We have a squad, that with one or two additions, can be competitive and has the potential to win promotion.

"However we need to decide whether we want to keep the squad together and I guess there is only one man who can make that decision, Mr Duckworth (Worcester's chairman)."
