WORCESTER City boss John Barton hopes to tie up his second summer signing this week.

Barton, who has already snapped up Gloucester City winger Mike Wyatt, says he is in advanced negotiations for a player who he says will be an "exciting signing" for the club.

Barton declined to name the player or his position but admitted he was in competition with two Nationwide Conference clubs.

But he said: "We are in a decent position, and certainly from the club's and my point of view, it will be an exciting signing."

Meanwhile, Barton could keep his late-season loan signings Richard Burgess and Anton Thomas at the club.

Former Stoke City striker Burgess has been invited back for pre-season training, while Barton plans to monitor the situation with Thomas, who is still under contract at Burton Albion.

Barton said: "Anton has come and scored four in seven games for us.

"The loan period was certainly well worth doing, and we have asked to be kept informed of the situation. But he is fully intent on going back to Burton to discuss his future."
