DARREN Middleton will aim to prove Kidderminster Harriers they were wrong to release him after joining neighbours Worcester City.

Middleton spent pre-season and a week in the 2000/2001 campaign on trial at Harriers.

But there was no room for the forward, who can also play in midfield, at Aggborough despite making a good impression on boss Jan Molby.

The 22-year-old impressed in friendlies for Dr Martens League Premier Division City and has linked up with manager John Barton, the former Harriers right-back.

Middleton started out at Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers before hitting the non-league scene with Stafford Rangers and Forest Green Rovers.

Barton said: "Darren's young and he wants to do well.

"We're taking him on after he suffered the disappointment of not being taken on by Kidderminster.

"He has got a lot of quality on the ball, is very enthusiastic and can get around the pitch.

"He's not an out-and-out goal-scorer but he sees himself as playing up front although he can also play in midfield."

Middleton scored against Halesowen Harriers and Redditch United during his pre-season spell with Molby's men.
