KIDDERMINSTER Harriers chief Lionel Newton has issued a warning to potential buyers of "Mr Consistency" Craig Hinton.

The 23-year-old, who joined Harriers after being released by Birmingham City, made an impressive start to the season in the 1-0 win over Scunthorpe United.

Playing at centre-back with Adie Smith, the defensive pair managed to keep a clean sheet against the lively Martin Carruthers and Kim Grant.

Hinton, who can also play at right-back and in midfield, had already attracted the scouts as Harriers' only ever-present player last season.

And Newton is determined not to let him go cheaply after reported interest from Division One giants Manchester City recently.

He said: "I call Craig Mr Consistency. He played every single league and cup game which is formidable.

"Normally players will have a lack of form or get suspended or injured.

"If Craig goes, and he will at some stage, then we must make sure we get a million for him.

"Then if he's playing well in the Premiership or Division One, he could be worth £3m or £4m so we have to make sure we place a sell-on clause, like with Lee Hughes."

Harriers will be gradually reaping the rewards of Hughes' £5m-plus transfer to Coventry City with £693,000 heading their way.

Hinton has three more years left on his contract and is relishing the chance of helping a young, talented team this season.

But Newton confirmed there have been no offers for the player yet.
