GEORGE Rooney has been axed as Bromsgrove Rovers manager after only three months in charge.
The former Worcester City boss has left the Victoria Ground following talks with chief executive Pat Bannister, with Rovers struggling in 20th place in the Dr Martens League Western Division.
Rooney was unavailable for comment today, but Bannister said: "We have both agreed in the mutual interests of the club that he should leave. There has been no sacking or no resigning.
"Results haven't gone George's way and he has obviously had to work in very difficult circumstances, but third from bottom is not the position we want to be in.
"We thank him very much for the services he has given to the club."
Rovers had won only three out of 13 league games this season, and lost 3-1 at Blakenall on Tuesday night. No decision has been made over Rooney's successor.
Talks are continuing over Bannister's proposed takeover of the club from former chairman Stuart Arnold.
