JOHN Brain paid tribute to his Worcester side who ended the season on a high at Moseley.

With little to play for and a number of Sixways stars still unsure of their futures, the head coach was delighted with the team's performance in the 42-7 win.

"It can be very difficult to motivate yourself for a game like that," he said. "But I think it shows how far we have come in terms of how professional we are. I was very pleased with the display but obviously you are always looking for a bit more. We would have liked more points.

"We've now come here twice this season and scored 50 and 42 points so it certainly shows improvement from last season.

"Even the guys who know they are going, they did a very professional job. All credit to them. I expected that, however, because they appreciate just what the club has done for them."

Brain was particularly pleased with Tony Yapp's 43rd minute try which was set up by some stunning interplay from the backs and a magnificent catch and run from full back Duncan Roke. The only down side was that backs coach Andy Keast did not see it!

"Andy turned to me and said 'what happened there?'," said Brain. "I said 'you won't believe it when you see it on video'. It was an amazing take from Duncan and the interplay which followed that was very, very good. To get the score out of it was really a good team try."

The former Gloucester coach believed it was the best possible way to sign off the season and another clear sign of progress.

"We haven't achieved the objective that we set ourselves at the beginning which was to win promotion. However, I think Worcester Rugby Club has come a long way in terms of the set-up and how professional it is. I think the club is in the best shape ever to go and compete for promotion next season."
