GUS Mackay took a hat-trick and hit 64 as Barnt Green Cricket Club First XI dismantled Birmingham and District premier division leaders Wellington.

Zimbabwean Mackay's treble, part of a 5-22 haul, helped restrict the leaders to just 87-7 in reply to Green's 255-6, giving Lyndon Jones' side a winning draw.

The captain said: "We tried everything and it was just frustrating not to bowl them out."

Jones though, who has seen his side climb to third in the table, believes Barnt Green are a force to be reckoned with.

"It's just a matter of time before these winning draws become wins," he added.

"It puts a bit of a marker own in the league showing that we are in a bit of form and we are a side to be feared."

The visitors produced an all-round effort batting first with each batsman reaching double figures.

Mackay's 64 was the pick of the bunch, but he was supported by Richard Wilkinson (38), Richard Hall (35) and Gavin Haynes (34).

In reply, Wellington lost opener Chris Rogers for five and had both Davidson and Downes dismissed for zero by Mackay as the hosts were reduced to 30-5.

De-Waymam was their top batsman, scoring 34.
