CENTURION Ian Duggan hit more than half his side's runs as Droitwich Spa Cricket Club First XI lost by five wickets at Evesham.

Spa's second defeat in a row saw Duggan hit 100, but Spa were dismissed for 192, leaving Worcestershire County League division one leaders Evesham a comfortable target.

Steve Walsh's side batted first after losing the toss and were soon up and running with Duggan and Stuart Bryan in good form against the pace of South African Warren Irvine and former Worcestershire and England all rounder Neil Radford.

The game swung Evesham's way when Stuart and Paul Bryan were removed by Radford, leaving Spa on 40-2 and that became 61-3 when Ian Cottrill went.

When Jerome Connor was dismissed, and Duggan was fighting a lone battle and reached his half-century in 26 overs.

Gary Cartwight and Mike Rogers also found themselves back in the pavilion with Spa perilously positioned at 128-6.

Skipper Walsh (16) offered Duggan some much-needed support as the pair produced a partnership of 48. Duggan dominated the Evesham attack and Spa's opener produced his first century of the season from 127 balls, but he failed to add to the total as the visitors posted 192 all out.

Evesham's prolific opening batsman Stuart Berry and Gary Lewis had no problem in compiling a partnership of 48 until Berry was caught by Walsh.

Ian Stowe continued the good work and with Lewis looking solid at the other end, Evesham were cruising to victory.

Rogers (3-73) was brought back to bowl and found the edge of Radford's bat, but a simple slip catch was not taken and Radford proceeded to hit 36 from 21 balls.

Radford was taken by Rogers, but skipper John Gregory guided Evesham home.

l On Sunday, Rogers took an unprecedented four wickets in four balls as Spa's Sunday team lost to Evesham by 68 runs.
