TWO men who had been taking heroin with another man found him dead a day later, an inquest has heard.

Haydn Casey, of no fixed address, was found dead in Tolladine Road, Worcester, where he was staying with a friend, Worcestershire coroner Victor Round told the inquest at Stourport-on-Severn.

Mr Round said toxicology reports revealed that the 17-year-old's death was due to morphine or heroin abuse.

He said that Mr Casey, who was originally from Redditch, had left home last June and had moved around a lot in the period before his death. He had lived in a bedsit, briefly moved back in with his parents, then with his grandmother, before living with a friend in Tolladine Road.

The coroner said that on Saturday, March 22, he met up with some acquaintances with whom he took heroin and possibly also cocaine and they then slept the majority of the following day until Sunday, March 23, at 6pm.

He said that when the two people he was with woke up and found him dead they reported it to the police and ambulance service.

Mr Round added, at Monday's hearing, that Mr Casey's mother, Tracey, knew her son was using cannabis but she didn't know that he was also taking hard drugs.

"In fact, they'd had rows about the cannabis, which she wasn't prepared to go along with," said Mr Round.

The coroner added that the police were satisfied that Mr Casey had injected the heroin himself.

The coroner recorded a verdict of death by non-dependant abuse of drugs.
