ARTIST Hazel Sherlock, whose paintings are currently on show at the Paper Moon caf, Malvern Link, moved to Malvern in 2001.

Before that, she lived in the seaside town of Lyme Regis in Dorset, and her paintings, many of them seascapes, reflect her choice of home.

"I moved to Lyme Regis in 1989 and was able to paint and draw seriously. I also began painting silk scarves, which I sold in shops and at craft fairs. I took part in several exhibitions and opened my studio for Dorset Art Weeks.

"I was particularly interested in the sea and sky over Lyme Bay, especially the spectacular scenes in winter.

"I had a marvellous view of the coast from my bedroom and kept a notebook to hand so that I could record details of the forms and the colours.

"I also explored the beaches and cliffs in all weathers to absorb the atmosphere."

She moved to Moorland Road to be near her daughter and to enjoy the equally spectacular scenery here.

"Some of my seascapes are from life in Lyme Regis, but others are recently painted with my memories and mind's eye."

Hazel started drawing as a sixth-former when she attended the local arts school in Beckenham, Kent, and she has kept the interest alive.

She has worked as an assistant stage manager in repertory theatres, and was a production assistant when ITV started up in 1955.

She also took time out to bring up her two daughters and spent nearly 20 years as a primary school teacher.
