I was wondering whether I should write you or the Chief Executive of the Wychavon Council; you won!

The subject is household waste or possible local government profligacy with our money.

On a regular basis, we citizens of the realm, churn out our waste and later in the day, the Council staff came along and removed it as if by magic.

Now, it's not quite that simple; we have "recycling". Over the years we had become used to the District Council taking all our rubbish away in black bags, to the tip.

These days, recycling is done both by the Council and by a private contractor. It seems that until the private contractor appeared on the scene, they, ( having identified that there was a market for some kinds of rubbish), thought this additional income might not have been added to the Council's coffers. Local Government does not normally think in commercial terms, such as these.

I learn that Wychavon or the County Council have no control over the scheme operated by the private Company.

What strikes me about the above is that the private company carry out their work of recycling without any cost falling on the Council Tax payer, but a similar service provided by the Council is paid for as part of our Council Tax.

This does not seem right. It also seems odd that the Council say in effect that what I have described above is private.

I thought Council Tax payers have a right to know these things.
