MEMBERS of Arden Sailing Club from Defford made their annual trip to the Saundersfoot Regatta.

With some 100 boats taking part thrills and spills were guaranteed, especially on the start line.

Winds varied between zero and force five, resulting in the loss of one day's racing due to a lack of wind - a first in the long history of this regatta.

The first Worcester sailor was Bill Dowell in his Redwing who took 14th place overall and the class prize.

The first Arden boat home was Niall Campbell and Jane Smee in 20th this, however, wasn't one of his better years as he was only third Enter-prise.

Eric Ison in his Laser was 35th, a fairly creditable result as he has not sailed since last year's regatta.

Dave Harris was 37th and, much to his surprise when the results were read out, he was first Solo that saw him take home a plate for the trophy cabinet.

Alan Salerman (Enterprise) was 52nd, David Drinkwater (Laser) 56th and father Richard (Enterprise) 61st.

Kevin Williams was 75th in his Redwing - a good effort with the clamps still being on from some major repair work.

The club is staging an Open Day at its Defford base on Sunday. Come and try sailing with experienced instructors between 11am and 4pm.
