JONATHAN Weedon has been selected by the Modern Pentathlon Association to represent Great Britain in Biathle events in Holland and Italy on June 15 and 29 respectively.

The 13-year-old Chipping Campden School pupil is a talented all-rounder and plays cricket, football and rugby for the school that has just received a Sport England Award.

The Weston-sub-Edge teenager ran for Glouc-estershire at the National Cross Country Champio-nships in February.

He is also a member of Stratford Sharks Swim-ming Club, Moreton Rangers FC and Cheltenham Harriers Athletic Club, where he specialises in the 1500m and long jump.

Jonathan, who was the youngest entrant, finished third in last Friday's five-mile run at the Robert Dover's Games.

Although selected to represent Great Britain in the Modern Pentathlon Biathle event in Cape Town, he was unable to travel due to the provision for a substantial self-funding requirement.

Jonathan's ten-year-old sister, Melanie, who attends St. James' Junior School in Chipping Campden, has now reached the minimum age requirement to compete in the event.

And, she impressed the selectors with her performance in winning a bronze medal at a recent national training weekend and she too will compete in Holland.

She too swims with the Stratford Sharks and, although too young to join Cheltenham Harriers at present, enjoys coaching from the Sharks' Triathlon specialists.

Funding is always a major problem and any sponsorship assistance for the youngsters would be gratefully received. Ring father David on 01386 840220 if you can help.
