LITERARY lovers are in for a treat with a series of Shakespearean plays due to be performed in the great outdoors at Witley Court.

The Two Gentlemen of Verona from Theatre Set-up will kickstart events next Thursday at 7.30pm.

Actors from the company, which has had rave reviews for its performances across the UK and Europe, will perform in 18th century costumes against a backdrop of harp music from Mozart's operas.

Other al fresco plays destined for Witley Court include The Merry Wives of Windsor and A Midsummer Night's Dream, both by Heartbreak productions.

The Merry Wives of Windsor features one of Shakespeare's greatest comic creations, Sir John Falstaff, and is due to run on June 21 and 22.

The bawdy romp will be followed by Heartbreak's 21st century adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream on July 26 and 27.

Shakespeare's mystical fairytale, which juxtaposes love and jealousy with illusion and reality, will feature a band of up-to-date traders instead of quaint rustic yokels.

Heartbreak's productions of Romeo and Juliet and Richard III reached audiences of over 30,000 people last year.
