CARING Spa folk are asked to step out and support a grand knees up in aid of an orthopaedic research charity.

The Knee Foundation, based in Victoria Square, is injecting plenty of action into its first ever fun day and hopes the Sunday, July 13 bash will become an annual hit.

The event kicks off with a one-mile sponsored walk by former patients of the Droitwich Knee Clinic, off Heritage Way.

Along with surgeons and medical staff, participants and pals will take a steady one-mile stroll around the town's Lido Park from 10.30am.

It's hoped music, clowns and supportive crowds will create a jovial atmosphere and an array of prizes, including oldest joint replacement and best fancy dress, are aimed to spur on walkers.

In the afternoon, weary legs can be rested at the Copcut Elm restaurant where an auction of goods and promises is being held from 2.30pm. The public is invited to join in.

A spokeswoman said: "Top lots include a Gary Lineker signed running order for the 2002 England V Argentina World Cup Match, food hampers, alcohol and Wolverhampton Wanderers tickets.

"More prizes are currently being sought from local firms."

All cash collected is going to the Knee Foundation, which funds orthopaedic education and research projects around the world. It relies on donations and fundraisers to continue. For more details about the fun day call 01905 776676 or log onto www.kneefoundation.com
