THE deadline is looming for applications for funding from the new Community Projects Grant Scheme set up by Malvern Hills District Council.

Local groups keen for a share of the £20,000 set aside for voluntary and community groups as well as charitable organisations within the district should apply now before applications close on June 13.

Grant bids are invited for local, events, small-scale projects, new equipment or initiatives costing not more than a total of £10,000, and grant contribution of up to 90 per cent of eligible costs, to a maximum of £1,000, can be applied for.

These must be match-funded from the applicants' own resources.

Supporting the scheme council leader Councillor Tom Wells said: "The scheme looks to smaller rather than large-scale capital schemes and applications are welcomed from across the community.

"We will consider many different kinds of projects from funding a pilot scheme, staging a special event, promoting a one-off initiative or purchasing new equipment providing that total costs are under £10,000."

The Community Projects Grant Scheme has been set up by Malvern Hills District Council to help projects and groups to improve local services and facilities which will help provide a better quality of life for the whole community.

The final decision will be made by the district council's grants committee in July when successful applicants will be notified. Applications received after Friday June 13 will not be considered.
