PRESIDENT Georgina Hunt and 32 members welcomed Gill Pritchard as a new member.

Gill is the daughter of Rev Bernard and Edna Pritchard.

Dianna Hall lit the Candle of Friendship for Blackpool. They had just hosted the yearly conference.

Ida Parkinson sent her thanks for all the get-well messages and Sally Evans was welcomed back after her operation. Flowers will be sent to Freda Ludwig, who has broken her hip.

Liz Ostroumoff gave her report on overseas and sought members' advice regarding the disposal of money raised over the last year.

It was decided to divide it equally between two projects, firstly the Organisation Trebuie based in the town of Sebes in Romania and associated with the local Rotary Club.

It looks after mentally and physically handicapped children. They have two old shops; one for training and one for care plus carers in the community. They have started to build a new purpose-built structure which will have workshops, accommodation, day centre and market garden.

The second project is RIBI's 'Send a Cow - Lifestock for Life' operating in Uganda. The latest two were in Kampala. Smallholders are trained to manage heifers to provide for their families. Members heard one widow was now supporting her daughter and five grandchildren on just two acres of land after receiving two female goats from the project last year.

Members also promised to support the Heart of Gold project. This is the name of the rose specially commissioned by Rotary District 1010 to highlight the support of polio eradication.
