FIRE crews were drafted in by the RSPCA to rescue a sick swan and her cygnets after they became distressed in the middle of a Redditch pond yesterday.
A male swan had already died on the pool, off Papermill Drive, and firefighters had to request a rescue boat from Evesham to help get the birds out.
An RSPCA spokesman said the dead swan was rushed to a vets so the cause of its death could be determined.
