A RECENT spate of thefts has sparked fears that unregistered taxi drivers could be operating around Redditch.

A number of taxi signs have been snatched from the roofs of taxis and police are concerned they could be used by unlicensed drivers to pick up passengers.

The first sign, which had Hackney 125 on and was worth more than £100, was snatched off the top of a silver Renault Savanna parked in Millsbro Road in Smallwood between 3am-9am on Saturday, April 26.

A second sign, with the words Taxis on one side, Redditch Borough Council on the other and the initials MH, was stolen from the top of a blue Nissan Primera parked in Mount Pleasant between 8pm-10pm on Saturday May, 10.

And a third sign, which had the licence number 40 on and was worth £100, was taken from a maroon Toyota Carina parked in Bushley Close, Woodrow, between 10.30pm-11pm on Sunday, May 11.
