A TRAFFIC warden has been captured on film parking his car on double yellow lines - while booking others for doing the same thing.

The blatant disregard for the rules was captured on camera by astounded Worcester resident and Evening News reader Sandra Ash.

She could not believe her eyes when she saw the warden, who has not been named, parked on double yellow lines outside her home in Back Lane South, Barbourne.

"My husband, who is disabled, told me that the traffic warden was outside and that he was booking others for being on double yellow lines when he was parked on them himself," said Mrs Ash, aged 53.

"I went out to see for myself and I couldn't believe it. In fact, I was so disgusted I went back into the house and grabbed my camera.

"I asked him if he was going to book himself and he just ignored me.

"My son then came out and asked the warden what he was doing, and his answer was that we wouldn't be making a fuss if the emergency services were parked on double yellow lines. That just didn't make sense to us. After all, he's a traffic warden, not a policeman or a paramedic.

"He then had the audacity to wave to us as he drove off. That really angered me."

The warden in question is now being "seriously reprimanded" by his employers, Worcester City Council.

"The traffic warden has admitted what he did," said Paul Kyte, city council parking manager.

"This is now an internal matter and the man in question is being seriously reprimanded. It's something that will not happen again.

"If a member of the public does have a complaint about a traffic warden, however, they should put it in writing and it will be investigated.

"Traffic wardens do have a difficult job to do, but, nonetheless, there is no excuse for the type of behaviour we have witnessed here."
