AN open evening is to be held at Kidderminster Hospital to promote healthier lifestyles and reduce the risk of diabetes.

The Kidderminster Diabetes Team is staging the event at the Postgraduate Medical Centre on Tuesday June 10 from 5.30pm until 8.30pm as part of National Diabetes Week.

The campaign aims to highlight increasing cases of diabetes which currently affects 1.5 million people in the UK and is set to more than double by 2010, largely due to increasing weight in both adults and children.

Kidderminster's diabetes team is offering the public an opportunity to learn more about their risk factors with a quick health screen available on the evening.

Specialist nurse Lyn Gilbert said: "Eating healthily and taking regular exercise is a major factor in both prevention and treatment of diabetes and this is the main focus for the Wyre Forest campaign this year."
