DAVE Titterton has completed his first Stourport Swifts close-season signing with the addition of Mark Jones.

The central-midfielder or right wing-back has been a key part of two consecutive Midland Alliance title successes with Stourbridge.

But ground grading rules mean Stourbridge will not be promoted so Titterton has given Jones a ticket to impress at Dr Martens Western Division level.

Titterton declared: "I was with Mark at Oldbury so I know what he can do. He's won a title for the last two years and has also played at Worcester before."

Jones has joined on non-contract terms after spending the last three seasons at Stourbridge.

The Swifts manager is waiting to find out whether he can bring back another target, Asa Charlton, to Walshes Meadow.

Former skipper Charlton left Swifts for Worcester last season but ended up at relegated Halesowen Town who still want to keep him.

However, Titterton has tempted the versatile Willie Dunn to try again at the club after his football career was put on hold by a bad knee injury.

Swifts, who have set dates for four friendlies so far, are also in talks with a goalkeeper and a striker with a proven scoring record.

Titterton said: "The players we've been in talks with are going to have to come to Stourport not for money but because they want to play at a better standard on a decent pitch.

"I still want to sign a striker, a goalkeeper and a left-sided player. I hope to hear more from the goalkeeper by Friday but it may be longer for the striker."

Conference side Burton Albion and county neighbours Worcester City will visit the town for pre-season friendlies on Wednesday, July 23, and Monday, August 11, respectively.

Swifts will also entertain Westfields on Tuesday, July 29, along with Bromyard Town and Stourbridge on dates to be confirmed.

They have an away friendly at Bilston Town on Saturday, August 2.

Defenders Steve Ulfig, John Newall and Dave Davies have all signed one-season deals with an option for an extra year.
