SIX games to go for us all this season and the coaches have been drilling it into the players to keep their eye on the ball.

Obviously most people believe that Rotherham are now certainties to win the National One title this season.

However, we cannot let those thoughts slip into our heads because we have to fight until the very last game of the season.

With Exeter firing on all cylinders, it is also vitally important we finish no lower than second because if there was some kind of review and two teams were allowed up, it would be a tragedy to finish third. Also if Rotherham did now lose a couple of matches, we have to be in the position to take full advantage.

There is a lot of talk about the Premiership becoming a 14-club format. Now if that happens at the end of the season, we have to be in second spot to join. Yes, maybe it's a rumour but Exeter seem extremely eager to finish above us. Our game here should be a cracker in April.

If Harlequins finish bottom of the Premiership, you can bet they'll be some sort of review and the talk in Wales is about a completely revamped formula. The word on the street there is that there could be a British league with four Welsh teams, two Scottish and 14 English in a two-tier system. You never know in rugby union and when these stories come out, you usually find there's no smoke without fire.

Otley visit Sixways on Saturday and we want to show them just what we are capable of after their coach made some unwise comments in the press after our match in Yorkshire earlier in the season.

He was quite sure Rotherham were the better side in the league and didn't mind saying so. I think all the boys are quite happy to prove a point at Sixways. It is always the easy option to single out Worcester for criticism but you must then accept that you are adding motivation in the reverse fixture.

Although I was injured for the game in Yorkshire, I remember what a battle it turned out to be. In the end, it was a very good win and another fine performance from Craig Chalmers who really steadied the ship amid an Otley comeback. Hopefully Craig will be in the same sort of form on Saturday.

The players are all very aware that there are contracts to be won for next season and the weekend offers another chance to impress. Hopefully, we will keep the nucleus of the squad together and keep on improving.

We are working all the time to improve and if we can do that until the end of the season and then through the summer I am sure we will be in a stronger position, in September, than we were last year.

The biggest problem here at Worcester has been constant chopping and changing. Whatever anyone tells you, you cannot build anything without sound foundations and I don't feel they've been allowed to develop over the past two years.

That is a symptom, however, of a game without any certainly regarding top level rugby rather than a club doing things intentionally the wrong way.

If we can keep together the good players we have at the club and add with the right type of player then we'll be all the stronger for it. A winning team, a spirit, an understanding does not come overnight and it doesn't come in just one season. I feel as if I've only been here two minutes and the season is two-thirds the way through!

You only have to look at Leeds to see how they progressed over a number of seasons. Phil Davies built year on year and eventually put together a winning formula. It will take you six months to find out about players and whether they will fit it. That's certainly been the case at Worcester this year.

Things take time and maybe this season was a little early to expect instant success. That is the environment in which we all work in, however, and it was one which we readily chose. We came here because it's a big challenge and an ongoing one which re-invigorates you on a daily basis.

We are building something here at Worcester and Otley will see the continued development on Saturday. Whether they like what they see is debatable!
