HORSERACING: Bank Holiday Monday's Albrighton Woodland point-to-point at Chaddesley Corbett provided a fitting finale to the season in the West Midlands.

A capacity crowd enjoyed competitive racing and some close finishes in the sunshine.

Jockeys Julian Pritchard and David Mansell both rode doubles but it was not enough for the former to retain his Area Riders' Championship.

Pritchard triumphed in the Mixed Open on Teme Willow and the Maiden on Mildan Grace.

He was seen at his best on Teme Willow, scoring by a short head over the even-money Supreme Citizen in a thrilling finish.

Pritchard had an easier task on Mildan Grace for Worcestershire owner Alan Hollingsworth.

After being at the rear for a complete circuit, he joined the leaders at the 15th and quickened clear of his rivals over the last two fences.

Mansell, often criticised for his riding style which is nevertheless effective, steered Jalcanto to victory in the Confined.

Almost A Day, the only favourite to win in the eight-race card, was successful in one of three divisions of the Maiden, named after the late and popular Bromsgrove bookmaker Charlie Wood.

Tom Weston, a 16-year-old Worcester schoolboy, had the Confined sewn up until his mount Caught at Dawn hit the penultimate and paid the penalty.

It allowed Jalcanto to coast home and secure the prize for Suckley-based trainer Jonathon Rudge.

Bradley Green rider Mickey Harris got his name on the scoresheet in the concluding division of the Maiden.

Harris had Alvero at the head of affairs from flag fall but kept a little in reserve.

It proved decisive when Uncle Ada and Snowtre challenged down the home straight.
