JOHN Brain has insisted that Ben Hinshelwood will be staying as Worcester's outside centre despite ex-celling as full-back for Scotland.

Worcester's director of rugby has been delighted with the 25-year-old's form since his elevation to the international stage but believes he is best suited to a central role at Sixways.

Hinshelwood starred at 15 during a midweek win over Canada West and has won a place on the bench as the Scots take on the full Canadian side later today.

However, even if he begins to make a name for himself as full-back at international level, Brain will have the Australian-born Scotsman back at 13 for next season's promotion push.

"He actually came to Worcester as a full-back," said Brain.

"We began playing him at outside centre but there was always an issue over Duncan Roke's position in the team.

"Ben will always give a good account of himself in any position because he is a quality player.

"However, we don't think it was a coincidence that when Duncan went to full-back and Ben went back to centre, we started to score lots of tries.

"We feel Ben is a 13 rather than a 15 but because he is a very good player, he will play well wherever he plays for Scotland. I'm very pleased for him but not surprised he has done well at international level.

"He will be back as an outside centre when he returns to us, though."

Brain was delighted, however, to see a Worcester player making a big impression for his country.

"It's good for the player, obviously," added Brain. "However, it's also good for Worcester. It's good to see an international squad with a player with Worcester next to his name.

"I think Ben is in the right company because he is quality and we were delighted to fight off competition from other clubs to keep him at Worcester."
