RICHARD Smith's proposed move from Worcester Rugby Club to Cardiff will be rubber stamped in the next 48 hours after a compensation package was hammered out.

The scrum-half announced his intention to quit Sixways last week after holding talks with the Arms Park outfit, but Worcester have been fighting for a pay-off ever since.

Talks between director of rugby John Brain and Smith's agent progressed yesterday and the former Welsh international's departure could be sealed as early as tomorrow.

Having accepted the player sees his future away from Worcester, Brain is now resigned to losing the 29-year-old.

"Until he signs the termination and we receive a cheque, he is officially still our player because he signed a two-year contract this time last year," said Brain.

"However, I would say that at this moment in time there is less than a one per cent chance that Richard will play for Worcester again.

"We are hopeful that we can reach agreement very soon."
