JOHN O'Reilly has handed Worcester Rugby Club a timely boost ahead of their South African tour by signing a one-year deal at Sixways.

The scrum-half, who has been on trial for three weeks following the departure of Richard Smith, has finally agreed a deal.

The 26-year-old and Worcester were said to be "miles apart" in their valuations of a contract last week but after further talks with coaches John Brain and Andy Keast, a deal was hammered out.

"John O'Reilly has agreed terms and he is coming to South Africa with the rest of the squad," said Brain.

"John has fitted in well with the rest of the squad since he came on trial. His type of game fits into the style we are trying to play, he has Premiership experience and will add stren-gth to the squad. We wanted to resolve the situation before we went away to South Africa but not at any price."

Worcester flew out to Durban today to begin their nine-day trip which includes a game against a select XV next Wednesday. New signings Craig Hudson and Adrian Olver are both battling to be fit for the match after picking up injuries against Ebbw Vale.

Gary Trueman twisted his ankle in the friendly but should be OK, while Mark Gabey began full training this week following a clean-out operation on his knee and will get some game time in Durban.
