WORCESTER Rugby Club have sensationally joined the race to sign international superstar Jonah Lomu.

The Sixways club, who lodged a bid for the New Zealand powerhouse after the 1999 World Cup, will join an auction for his services if he decides to quit international rugby.

Lomu -- whose contract with the New Zealand RFU expires on November 30 - is at present considering his future and according to agent Phil Kingsley-Jones is looking at a possible move to England this season.

And Kingsley-Jones, father of new Worcester skipper Kingsley, confirmed a Sixways move would interest the 26-year-old.

"Worcester are a club very dear to his heart," he said. "He has obviously been there before in 1999 with New Zealand and the club holds very happy memories for him. He would certainly be interested in a move to Worcester but at the moment we are just looking at all the options.

"At the moment Jonah is concentrating on New Zealand. He is contracted until November but we are obviously talking about the future. Worcester would be an option because he has friends at the club. Worcester are a fine model for rugby and with Cecil Duckworth, they have a great ambassador."

Chairman Duckworth, rather than playing down a move for the winger who figured in the Kiwi's 29-26 Tri-Nations loss to Australia on Saturday, confirmed he would be interested.

"Of course we would be very interested in Johah," he said. "Jonah has been to Worcester before and will be here in November to promote his new video. He is also very good pals with Kingsley Jones.

"It would light up interest in the club. I think it would be one of those sporting moments similar to the time that Ian Botham came to Worcester. Jonah is a giant in the game and of course, we'd be very interested in a deal to bring him here."
