BROMSGROVE Cricket Club First XI enjoyed two fantastic victories over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Despite seeing their Birmingham and District division one game abandoned to the weather at Kidderminster last Saturday, the Boars saw off Old Hill and Sutton Coldfield by five and eight wickets respectively last Sunday and Monday.

Nick Husbands won the toss at Sutton Coldfield on Monday and put the hosts in and, after being hit for six in his in first over, soon stole the show.

He bowled Guest (7) and Davies (0) within three deliveries before accounting for Leicestershire's Rob Cunliffe (3) in his next over.

Nick Davies nipped in with another but the skipper took the last three to return figures of 7-25 from 15 overs to bowl Sutton out for just 54.

After a shaky start, losing two early wickets, Simon Keyte (24 not out) and Duffy (15no) ensured there were no further alarms as the visitors reached their total in 25 overs to seal a comfortable eight-wicket victory.

On Sunday, Old Hill were always struggling after Worcesershire's Jon Farrow removed the dangerous pair of Adshead (2) and Mateen (0) in successive balls.

Harshad Patel (22) tried to remain positive but the introduction of Husbands (3-13) and Mark Evenson (2-13) saw regular wickets fall and few runs added.

The premier division visitors were finally bowled out for 88 in 39th over, the last two wickets falling courtesy of great catches by wicket keeper Tom Hill off Patel's bowling.

But the Boars got off to the worst possible start when Keyte and Davies were both out for ducks. Paul Duffy (12) made some progress but he went with the score on 21-3.

Jamie Campbell received great support from Julian Court as he cautiously started chipping away at the runs. The loss of Court (9) made way for Patel with some aggressive strokes to finish on 23no. Campbell top scored with 31no as Bromsgrove marched to a five-wicket win to face Coventry NW or Banbury in the regional semi-finals.

Saturday's match at Kidderminster was abandoned after Bromsgrove had restricted Kidderminster to 153-9 off 55 overs. Davies helped them to 56-1 in reply before the rain.
