Bretforton 6, Bournville 2

THIS was Bretforton's first match of the Summer League hosted by Stourport.

It some became clear that the opposition weren't as strong as some of Bretforton's previous opponents during the winter and there was intense pressure on the Bournville defence.

There was plenty of attacking play from Lisa Workman and Tracey Hodgkin on the right and Julie Hall and Sophie Corbett in the centre.

A goalmouth scramble led to the opening goal from Andrea Cole after 20 minutes.

Good play from Gilly Wright and Corbett led to Cole's second when a shot from Corbett rebounded off the goalkeeper.

Corbett also had a number of shots on goal, but couldn't find the target, however a fine shot from the edge of the circle finally made it 3-0.

The selection of Lorna Beddis at left defence paid off with some good play, while old favourites Bobbie Handley, Jane Wheeler and Blanche Surman showed their experience in keeping the Bournville attacks at bay.

However Bournville did manage to break through when, despite goalkeeper Fiona Baldelli's attempted save, the ball was slipped underneath her for 3-1 at half-time.

Hodgkin who added a fourth close-range as Bretforton continued to pressure with some excellent passing. However, complacency allowed Bourn-ville to score their second.

Bretforton then pulled things back together and Julie Hall struck twice in the final 15 minutes.
