PAUL Wyatt has set himself the target of emerging from the shadow of number one 'keeper Danny McDonnell.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a run of 18 games at the start of last season during which Worcester City lost just three times.

However McDonnell returned from injury to claim his place and Wyatt made just three further appearances.

Playing number two to McDonnell is, admits Wyatt, a tough task because he rates the former Halesowen Town keeper so highly.

"My aim is to get back into the team, that's the priority, but it is hard because as well as you play, Danny is always playing well," he said.

"I think he's too good for this level but that's the way it is however hopefully if I can keep plugging away I might get my chance."

Wyatt started out in boys football for Worcester Colts before being snapped up by Pershore Town.

He was then signed by Rushden & Diamonds, then in the Conference, and spent a year in their youth academy, before bad luck with injury forced him to return to Worcester.

During his spells in the City first team he has impressed but Wyatt knows he still has room for lots of improvement.

"I need to work on my kicking and crosses but that comes with confidence," he said.

"I'm not very confident but that is mainly because of lack of games, which is nobody's fault, just a fact."

For now Wyatt is happy at St George's Lane but with the lure of first team football, it won't be long before he could be challenging McDonnell for the number one jersey.
