JOHN Barton believes he may have unearthed a diamond in the shape of midfielder Pat Lyons who will be looking to sparkle against Chelmsford City tomorrow (3pm).

Worcester City's new signing has featured prominently in the opening two games of the season and travels to New Lodge in confident mood after his summer move from Burton Albion.

In the heat of battle during City's hard-earned point at Tiverton Town on Wednesday, Lyons was a willing outlet and always eager to keep possession.

Lyons shares the same footballing philosophy as manager Barton and is relishing the chance to shine at City.

"I'm really enjoying it at City especially because I didn't play so much last season," said Lyons.

"I'm playing wide on the right but I like to tuck in and get involved so sometimes I go looking for the ball.

"The last 15 or 20 minutes against Tiverton I was a bit tired but you expect that because I missed a few games in pre season.

"John Barton is emphasising to us about keeping possession and has brought players in that can play.

"When we move the ball around quickly we look a good team and the aim has to be to not give the ball away because we are good enough to play.

"When we get the ball on the floor we looked a different side."

Tomorrow's opponents will be another rigorous test for Barton's revamped side but after losing to a late goal in the repeat fixture last season, City can at least go there with confidence up this time round.

"We went there last season and didn't perform but the result against Tiverton gives us something positive to talk about ahead of the match," said Barton.

"Sometimes you can derive as much pleasure and satisfaction out of a drawn game than a victory and this was the case on Wednesday.

"We need to continue in the same vein of form tomorrow and hopefully we can again come away with at least a point."

Chelmsford, under former England World Cup star Paul Parker, have endured a disappointing start to the campaign with a defeat to promoted Chippenham Town and a point at home to Hinckley.

But Parker has plenty of experience in his ranks including former Northern Ireland and Sunderland full back Phil Gray, ex-Wimbledon striker Ansah Owusu and ex-Huddersfield Town and Doncaster Rovers defender Steve Sanders.

Highly-rated Lee Kersey who spent six years with Spurs for whom he made over 100 reserve appearances is also in the squad.

Formcast: City to win 1-0.
