ADAM Wilde had no qualms about signing for Worcester City especially after tipping them for title success before the season kicked off.

The 23-year-old predicted a showdown between John Barton's side and Tamworth and is more than happy to lend his weight to City's challenge.

Wilde's £7,500 transfer from Cambrid-ge City ended a year long quest by Barton to sign the winger whose stunning volley sank Worcester at St George's Lane last November.

After six years at Cambridge - split between United and City - Wilde admits it was a wrench to move but ultimately made the move for footballing reasons.

"Cambridge is nice club and they are a good bunch of lads but at the end of the day I've made the decision for footballing reason," he said.

"Worcester are a good club and I knew they would be up their challenging with Tamworth and it's a great opportunity to join a side with a chance of winning the league.

"When I first met John Barton I had a gut feeling that it would be a good move and he was a big factor in me coming to the club."

Wilde hails from Southampton where he was on schoolboy forms with the Hampshire club before being spotted and signed by The U's.

Saints contemporary Wade Elliott is currently catching the eye at Bournemouth and Wilde has not given up the dream of returning to full time football.

Four years at Third Division eventually fizzled out through injury before manager Roy McFarland released him much to Wilde's frustration.

"Injury hampered my final months there and felt I was a bit unlucky not to get a chance but the game is all about opinions and unfortunately I was released," he said.

For the present Wilde is relishing the prospect of adding impetus to Worcester's championship aspirations and his style of play could rekindle memories of wingers such as Peter McParland whose skills entranced the St George's Lane faithful.

"I'm an old fashioned winger and out wide is where I feel most comfortable," said Wilde.

"I enjoy running with the ball and getting at defenders, that is my main strength."

All being well City fans will get the chance to see Wilde's skills on display at The Lane against Ilkeston Town.
